Alex Vitale has researched and written about the future of policing for 30 years. In this talk, hosted by Riverdale Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, Vitale will explain the “defund the police” movement and its relationship to the long struggle for racial and economic justice.

Vitale is the author of City of Disorder: How the Quality of Life Campaign Transformed New York Politics and The End of Policing. His writings on policing have appeared in numerous publications including Police Practice and Research, Mobilization, Contemporary Sociology, The New York Times, Washington Post and The Guardian. He has also appeared on CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, NPR, PBS, Democracy Now, and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
