Adams professor of constitutional law and a professor of history, is renowned for her work on the ways that religious liberty developed over the course of American history. A frequent media commentator, she is the author of The Spirit of the Law: Religious Voices and the Constitution in Modern America. Her work-in-progress, Freedom’s Holy Light: Disestablishment in America, 1776-1876, is about the historical relationship among religion, politics and the law.
