In honor of Women’s History Month, explore the life of freethinker and feminist Helen Hamilton Gardner. In partnership with freethinker Robert Ingersoll, Gardener railed against religious institutions that brutally oppressed women. Gardner became vice president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association and played an important role in bringing about the 19th Amendment. She advocated for the rights of women by writing fiction, challenging sexist faux-science, and serving on the United States Civil Service Commission. Hugh Taft-Morales explores what inspiration we can draw from this remarkable woman.
