The U. S. immigration system needs fundamental repair, but not in manner chosen by the new administration. We must better incorporate ten million undocumented immigrants into our country, most of whom have lived here constructively for more than a decade! They do not deserve to be treated as criminals. We must do better to protect those seeking asylum. Many are fleeing life-threatening situations exacerbated by our country’s insatiable thirst for drugs and our global status as the top gun manufacturer. Hugh Taft-Morales explores options for compassionate, legal, and ethical responses to increasingly chaotic migratory patterns worldwide.
