Concert to Benefit Immigrants Fleeing Persecution

Curtis Institute students and faculty, and members of The Philadelphia Orchestra will give a benefit concert to help refugees and other immigrants fleeing persecution. All proceeds will go to HIAS PA to support its legal and social services for immigrants. “We believe in the power of music,” said Jennifer Montone, Principal Horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra and a Curtis Institute faculty member. “We hope to offer both practical help for HIAS PA and healing for our listeners.”

Concert program:
The music will include traditional folk songs from Afghanistan, Haiti, and Ukraine; music of Claude Debussy; and classical works by living composers Catherine Likhuta and Elaine M. Ross. The audience will be invited to join in singing a prayer for Ukraine with music by Mykola Lysenko and lyrics by Oleksandr Konysky.

Concert performers include David Hughes, piano; Robert Cart, flute; Shannon Merlino, viola; and Hannah Culbreth, Jack Bryant, and Jennifer Montone, horn.
