Given the civil discord evident from Capitol Hill to street protests to social media, what can be done to revive the concept of “the Common Good?” Is it possible to heal the social division between groups from different areas with different backgrounds and political philosophies? Hugh Taft-Morales explores the cultural antipathy between southerners and northerners during the Civil War of the nineteenth century and suggests some lessons we can learn to help us in the twentieth century.
