PROGRAM DETAILS

THE DAILY SCHEDULE

Campers arrive at 10:30 AM and are divided into four groups of 10 to 14.

11:00 AM to 12:00 noon: Groups 1 and 2 go to swimming pool for lessons and free swim. Group 3, with the first team of counselors, goes to the garden, Nature Center, nature walk and organized play in that order. Group 4, with the 2nd team of counselors, goes on the nature walk, organized play, garden and Nature Center in that order.

Lunch and free play are from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM.

1:00 PM to 3:00 PM: Groups 3 and 4 go to swimming. Groups 1 and 2 follow the morning activities schedule above.

3:15 PM to 3:30 PM: An all-camp meeting to review the dayís accomplishments and preview of following week program. Sing the Camp Linden song.

Campers depart at 3:30 PM.

OUTLINE OF THE WEEKLY PROGRAM

WEEK 1: Harvest and taste carrots, beets and lettuce. Learn parts of a plant. Plant carrots and lettuce. Learn why plants are important to us. Nature Walk: "Taking pictures with your mindís eye."

WEEK 2: Observe flowers in the garden and germinated seeds in Nature Center. Learn life-stages of a plant. Learn what plants need to grow. Read story about pollination. Observe and gather wild flowers on nature walk.

WEEK 3: Observe Three Sisters Garden (corn, beans and squash grown interdependently). Learn concept of Native American and organic gardening. Read Native American legend of the "Three Sisters". Nature walk to corn field. Make and eat popcorn and corn-on-the-cob.

WEEK 4: Lenape Native American Program.

WEEK 5: Harvest and taste tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Wade and explore in the Brandywine Creek. Lesson: creatures great and small.

WEEK 6: Harvest and take home tomatoes, peppers, and squash. Olympic Opening Ceremony (including parade with drums and parachute) and Olympic Games. Award Ceremony (each camper receives a first place medal). Farewell.
